Eric grew up in Minden, Louisiana, the son of John and Susie Johnson. Eric’s father was an attorney who began practicing in 1973, and Eric’s mother was his father’s secretary. Eric spent much of his childhood working in his parents’ law office, and he knew from an early age he wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps.
After graduating from Minden High School in 1986, Eric attended LSU for both undergrad and law school, graduating from Paul M. Hebert Law Center in 1993. Upon being sworn in to the Bar later that year, Eric joined his father in his law practice in Minden.
Eric concentrated his law practice in the area of criminal defense from the moment he began practicing law, handling all manner of criminal cases in both state and federal courts across Louisiana. Eric has handled DWIs, drug cases, firearms cases, sex offenses, violent offenses, and virtually every other type of criminal case in state courts across Louisiana. Eric has also practiced extensively in federal courts, handling complex conspiracy cases, firearms offenses, and violations of civil rights. Eric has tried scores of cases before juries and judges in both state and federal courts. Moreover, Eric is known for aggressively defending his clients at both trial and in the plea-bargaining process. Eric is also very experienced in representing clients on appeal, and in post-conviction relief proceedings, as well as before the Pardon and Parole Board.
Eric enjoys mentoring other young lawyers in his firm and helping them further their own legal career. One of his former associates is now a District Judge in Caddo Parish and another is a highly respected appellate prosecutor in Caddo Parish. His current associate, Rachel Bays, is herself currently a candidate for District Judge in the Second Judicial District Court covering Claiborne, Bienville and Jackson Parishes.
Eric’s approach to handling criminal cases is simple: always attain the best possible result and outcome for each and every client in every case. Eric doesn’t play golf, and he rarely takes a vacation. For him, the practice of law is the alpha and omega. Providing the very best representation to his clients is what drives him.
“When individuals come to my law firm for representation, they are usually at a very low point in their lives. We often represent clients charged with the most serious crimes imaginable. We handle cases where the stakes can’t get any higher. Doing our very best job for these individuals and obtaining the very best outcome possible in each and every case is what we pride ourselves in.”
